->> I did a couple searches for this on the mesg. board but didn't find much.
Newspaper shooters, I'm wondering what type of Image management software your paper uses to archive your photos, and more importantly be able to find them using keywords that could be in the image name and more importantly the actual cutline.
Photo Mechanic 4.0 is used for the image aquisition and captioning, but I'm interested in seeing what your office is using for the actual archival/retrival software.
I know of Extensis Portfolio.... any others out there?
Thanks,
Ben |

| ->> Our editorial system has a built in archiving system that allows you to search by name, date published, date archived, IPTC info (which nobody bothers to use), or words in the caption. It works great when it's working, unfortunately the system crashes fairly often and if nobody checks it we lose images. |

| ->> Does Portfolio support D2H NEF files? I heard that it did not which would be a deal breaker. |

->> MediaGrid is great. Go to www.swcc.com
It has everything you need - hands down. It is however, very pricey. |

->> Here at Georgia Tech, where the budget for software is about zero, I wrote a system from the ground up. Not as fancy as some of the bigger systems out there, but it caters exactly to our needs.
Shooters can submit their photos from anywhere, not just the office. The system reads IPTC caption and author info from the picture, allows searching by caption or date and sorting by photog name, etc.
We've been using it for a couple weeks now and I'm anxious to see how it works once we start the new year off with a full crew of photogs.
It's online at the link below if anybody is interested. Only low-res thumbnails are available to non-registered users.

->> We have been longtime users of Cumulus here at the Honolulu Star-Bulletin. We've just upgraded to version 6 as all our machines are transitioned to Mac OS X. Its a definite improvement on an already pretty good archiving system. Good previews, full size file views, key term caption searches. The search feature now searches through multiple archives and has a user friendly interface. Our photographers have a pretty easy time with it. Now if only some of our copy editors would catch on..........

| ->> MediaGrid. Pretty good stuff. We even have our photo request forms done in this system so you can search for those too. In fact, we have pdf's of every page of our newspaper stored in the system; graphics too. Reporters/editors can access the archive via the web inside the firewall. It's a very useful tool, but yes, very expensive too. |

| ->> My paper uses a system called "Doris". You can find photos using your name, date created, date published, subject matter, or keyword. It is a great system that allows easy access to archived photo's as well as text. |
