| ->> Hi, I am getting ready to shoot the upcoming 2004 Speedo National Diving Championship in Mission Viejo next week. Just wondering what is the best way to keep track the divers, the dive (i.e. 2/1/2 front twist, double flip…..I just made this up) and the scores of each dive. Thanks. Ben |

->> Ben:
Does your camera have voice recording, such as the EOS 1D and D2h?
If it has this capability, just speak your info into the back of the camera. It uses a bit more space on the CF Card, but I have found it to be the best way to take notes while shooting. |

| ->> Shoot the scoreboard before/after the diver. This will give you the persons name, category, score and other useful info that you or an editor may need down the road. Also, this info is in shoot frame # order and on your CD so you know you cant get your notes wrong. Good Luck! |

->> Hi Steve, I shoot with 1D bodies, I have used the annotation feature before but it is not as convenient as I would like it to be. For example, I frequently would shoot many shots before I have a chance to use the recorder. Or I would only catch and record partial information (i.e. name, event but not able to catch rest of the info) and hope to go back later. In those instances, since I can’t hear what was already recorded, I don’t remember what addition info I would need to add to the recorder.
Shelly, I really enjoy your Fun Pix of Al and other shooters. They were great! Your suggestion shooting the scoreboard is perfect. The only thing I can screw up is record the dive description. Are you going to MV next week? Ben |

->> Ben:
When I shoot bursts I scroll back and leave my notes with the first frame. If I can I shoot a "starter" static photo, with little or no motion, if I am shooting swimming, or track, when the runner or swimmer steps up. I leave my initial notes there.
In track, at the end of the race, or in football, at the end of the play, I leave my notes on what just happened on the last frame.
Using Photo Mechanic I am able to very easily able to tell which files have voice notes, and easily able to tell which images those notes go with.
In cases where I don't know what I just recorded, I simply rerecord the info. It does not over write what you already put in there, it just makes the recording longer. When it doubt add more info, and sort it out later. |
