Canon 1D used Market

->> I am thinking of selling one of my 1D cameras since I shoot very little in the summer and it is just sitting on the shelf. When I checked out the Canon 1D cameras listed and the completed auctions on Ebay, I was surprised how few seem to be on the market. Once you take out the obvious scam auctions the used 1D seems to be in the $2500 to $2700 range. This doesn't seem to be much different than before the 1D Mk II came out.
Is the 1D still hard to find on the used market? Is this keeping the price up? What happened to all the used SI cameras that were supposed to hit the market ? |

->> Robert, I don't know about the situation in Northern America (Canada and USA), but here in Europe the prices are falling. Mainly due to the fact that there were a lot of 1D's owned by non-pro's who just want the latest.
They went massively for the 1DMKII (the 1Ds wasn't up to standards speedwise, apparently) and are dumping their 1D's for prices like 2000 US Dollars. |

->> Well considering the fact that we saw Bill Frakes needing about 35 cameras, I think he just inherited them all. ;)
But, I've been keeping aloose eye on the used 1D market, and the $2500-2700 is the upper range of the cameras. (I always find Ebay prices a little overblown.) If you watch the classified ads on Photo Message boards (including SS.com) they seem to run more along the lines of $2100 at the low end, to $2400 at the mid-range, up to around $2500-2600. The only ones I see that go for that much though are reported to be less than 1 yr old, in mint condition with very few shutter actuations.
I didn't take any statistics, or write anything down, but that's just the trend I've been seeing. |

| ->> I see a lot of want ads on SportsShooter looking for 1D cameras. I figured the 1D must have been scarce if people had to advertise to find one. Maybe these people are just looking for the elusive $1,500 1D :-) |

->> Nick is pretty close on those numbers. The 1D is a very capable camera and its used pricing has stayed reasonably stable throughout the spring, although there was a point prior to the MKII release that prices were hovering around $3,000 because due to a shortage of new 1D bodies and the fact the MKII had not been released. That started to ease up about 2-3 weeks before the MKII started to ship.
The 1D is still an incredible camera and it has proven its worth, battle tested overseas and has remained popular because of the $2,000 price difference between it and the MKII. |

->> Got my second-hand 1D for US $1,900 a couple of weeks ago. As new, in box, with all CDs, manuals and cables.
I'd love a mkII but the 1D is head and shoulders above anything I've used previously. |
