John Oates, a friend of the family, comforts Darell early on the morning of March 5th as he says goodbye to his wife. His son Jeremy is getting married in South Texas and Darell had planned for Maryanne to accompany him but as her condition worsened he knew it wasn't going to be. Unsure if she will be alive when he returns, yet sticking by his promise to Jeremy to be at his son's wedding, the distress of leaving Maryanne causes him to weep over her sleeping form.
