Darell is comforted by a nurse as emergency medical technicians take Maryanne to Hendrick Hospice on Valentine's Day. Her condition had rapidly deteriorated over the weekend to the point where her pain had become debilitating. Unable to talk because of the pain medicine, Maryanne communicates the only way left to her, screaming as the EMTs lift her into a stretcher. It's more than Darell can take.
