| Ron Erdrich's Message: |
In 2011 I started a new position at my newspaper, becoming the writer, photographer and videographer for the Big Country Journal, a full color page in our “A” section. I cover a 100-mile radius outside the city of Abilene, Texas, about 23 counties.
For several years, our coverage in those surrounding counties, known as the Big Country, had waned as the staff shrank, my new job is meant to change that. I am responsible for finding all of my stories, no assignment editor works with me though the newsroom does sometimes throw things my way. Readers also suggest ideas, but the majority of my stories are found simply by getting out into the community.
