| Andrew Craft/The Fayetteville Observer | Paratroopers, from the 82nd Airborne Division, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, practice their parachute landing falls during their pre-jump training before boarding planes to make a nighttime jump at Fort Bragg, N.C. The 82nd airborne division is trained to parachute into battle at a moment's notice and fight without reinforcements for days. It's a key element of the division's traditional mission to deploy within hours of receiving orders. But after repeated tours in Iraq and Afghanistan over the last eight years, the nation's only paratrooper division has gotten away from that role. They are training to take back that role.
