Second Place: "“Life isn’t easy""

| Nick Adams/Patuxent Publishing Company/WK | “Life isn’t easy for anyone in this world, I just got it a lot harder then most,” said Sterling Parrott, 73, of Bartlett, Texas while sitting in Blackland Burger Barn reading his mail. Parrott was three years old when his mother passed away, his father told him she had the same dominant genetic disorder as he does. He had always looked different, but it wasn't until he was 17 when the Neurofibromatosis symptoms came to light.He dropped out of high school and was never able to get a college education like he would have liked. ‘It was impossible to get jobs on the account of health insurance, I just did day labor jobs and stuff like that, I don’t do much since I am retired and disabled,” he said. Parrott could have some of the larger tumors removed, but they would just grow back and it cost too much money. “It’s just a bad thing I have to deal with,” said Parrott. Copyright: Nick Adams |
