December, 2004 [ recent winners ] << previous next >> First Place: "Lighting Up The Night" Darryl Dyck/Edmonton Sun | Smoke from a burning sour gas well drifts over a farm just west of Edmonton, Alta., in the early hours of Tuesday December 14, 2004. Something ignited the gas late Monday night after an explosion occurred at the well site on Sunday while routine maintenance was being performed. The explosion sent natural gas containing hydrogen sulphide spewing into the air forcing dozens of people from their homes.
