First Place: "Remembering Terry Gibson"

| Matthew Hinton | A wall of sound from multiple brass bands sent off trumpeter Terry Gibson, Jr. after his funeral at the Charbonnet Labat Glapion Funeral Home on Saturday, April 24, 2021. Gibson passed in his sleep from undetermined causes at the age of only 29 on April 13, 2021. With the crowd limited by COVID-19, an NOPD detail escorted the second line memorial parade as it traveled around the Treme neighborhood of New Orleans. Gibson performed with the All for One Brass Band, Free Spirit Brass Band, TBC Brass Band, Water Seed, One Mind Brass Band, and New Creations Brass Band, many of whom were in attendance and helped create the wall of sound. According to his obituary, “Terry was an authentic representation of the spirit and legacy of Louis Armstrong, some would call him Armstrong reincarnated. So much so that in 2010 he won the first "Seeking Satch" award [in Germany,] a competition meant to keep the legend of New Orleans icon Louis Armstrong alive, winning the hearts of his audiences in Europe and at home, his charm becoming the indelible trademark of his trumpet career.” Copyright: Matthew Hinton |
