Third Place: "Year Anniversary of a Tragedy"
 |
| Matthew Hinton | On the year anniversary of the Hard Rock Hotel construction site collapse in Oct. 2019, a group of artists with People for Public Art directed by Monica Rose Kelly, right, unveiled three long banners to memorialize the three workers including Anthony “Bubba” Magrette, Jose Ponce Arreola, and Quinnyon “Q” Wimberly, on Oct. 12, 2020 in New Orleans. Quinnyon’s mother Irene Wimberly, left, gets help signing the long banner of her son from Rubia Garcia. People for Public Art is trying to raise money for a permeant memorial to the victims. Margette’s body was recovered soon after the collapse, while the bodies of Wimberly and Ponce took over 300 days. The building is still being demolished. By comparison it took 262 days, eight and a half months, for a much larger debris pile from the World Trade Center site to be removed after the 9/11 attacks. Copyright: Matthew Hinton |
