Third Place: "Audubon Sunset"
 |
| Matthew Hinton | Beginning in Lake Itasca, Minnesota the Mississippi River twist and turns in its journey throughout the United States including a distinct crescent shape that gives New Orleans its nickname, the Crescent City. Sometimes its dangerously high and sometimes it gets low revealing beaches along the riverbanks. Here a heron lands on a beach at Audubon’s Butterfly Riverview Park, nicknamed “The Fly” by locals on Thursday, August 6, 2020. John James Audubon who the park is named after spent much of his time in Louisiana and New Orleans from 1821-1837. During that time his famous book with his realistic paintings was published. “The Birds of America,” book cover featured a Louisiana Heron, now known as a Tri-Colored Heron.
