February, 2017 [ recent winners ] << previous Third Place: "Homecoming" Francis Gardler/Lincoln Journal Star | Mohammed Mahad (left) is reunited with his wife, Nejah Hassan, on Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at the Lincoln Airport. A Somali refugee living in Ethiopia, Mahad was set to be one of the last refugees to arrive in Nebraska as President Trump's four-month ban on U.S. resettlement took full effect. A U.S. judge blocked Trump's order nationwide on Friday. Mahad, who hadn't seen his wife in two years, plans to resettle with her in the Lexington area.
