Second Place: "Cancer Support"
Corey Perrine/Naples Daily News | Kelly Shaver-Hayman, from right, kisses her grandson Isiah Eloi, 2, while Kelly's husband, Stan Hayman, looks on and daughter Katelyn Shaver photographs Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at the Petrucelli residence in Golden Gate Estates, Fla. Shaver-Harmon, a former caseworker at St. Matthew's House and 1978 graduate of Naples High School, has a dying wish -- she wants to save her son's home from foreclosure so her 20-year-old daughter and grandson have some comfort in their lives. In January, 2012, Kelly Shaver-Hayman's son, Justin Petrucelli, was the Big Corkscrew firefighter who died from injuries after he was struck from behind by a colleague on his motorcycle. The family agreed the girlfriend could stay in the home if she made the mortgage payments, which she did not. The bank started foreclosure proceedings. Kelly, in the meantime, had some pains in her ribs and simply thought it was her then one-year-old grandson kicking her each time being carried. When the pain didn't stop, she went to the emergency room at NCH Downtown Naples Hospital on Thanksgiving Day, last year. After tests she was told she had advanced lung cancer and despite being diagnosed as terminal, is currently going through chemotherapy to prolong life as much as possible. In the meantime, she is pleading with the community to make her final wish come true in raising over $134,000 needed to pay the bank. The three were documenting the moment after all had shaved their heads, the two males in support of Kelly's hair falling out from chemotherapy. Kelly and Stan have been married since 1998.
