The camp, lead by Joyce Chartier, runs in week-long sessions, but Chartier says she gets many students that attend multiple sessions throughout the summer. Ireton-Hewitt has been riding for about two years. According to Chartier, someone with no horseback riding experience could expect to be trotting by the end of the week and have a basic understanding of how to care for and prepare a horse for riding. "We get kids of all different skill levels, attitudes, ideas and finances," says Chartier. "These horses help with developing leadership skills and morals and work ethic because taking care of a horse is a lot of work.
