Image © 2016, Bob Gathany || While photographing the first Madison Bowl Football Jamboree between Bob Jones and North Gwinnett at the Madison City Stadium, I noticed the sky behind the home team stands. I left the field and climbed the visitor bleachers on the opposite side of the field to capture this incredible sunset that most Bob Jones fans never saw because they were watching the game and it was behind them. Sometimes you have to step back from what you are doing and look at the big picture. (Bob Gathany / The Huntsville TImes) |

Former staff photographer for Alabama Media Group/AL.com /The Huntsville Times newspaper in Huntsville, Alabama. I shoot with a Sony A9 camera and in my spare time, I like to photograph lightning and fly really big kites (not at the same time). I was at the newspaper since 2000. When I started we had 11 photographers and when I retired, I was the last one left. For 20 years before I started at the paper, I had a studio and custom color lab that specialized in commercial/industrial photography (products, architecture, plant facilities, museums, decor,etc.).
My grandmother and her brother were photographers in the early 1900's in PA. She attended the Southern School of Photography in McMinnville, TN in 1912.
I still take assignments in my spare time. Please feel free to contact me.
