The stickers on his window serve as a memorial to highway workers lost on the job. Since the Minuteman program began 30 years ago, three of their drivers have been killed on the job. Most recently, Edward Gates, was fatally injured on December 10, 2003 while assisting a motorist changing a flat tire on the shoulder of the Dan Ryan Expressway.
