Comments | The thing about portraiture - in any context - is that you have entire and complete control over everything. Lighting, setting, etc, etc.
This is basic 'College Newspaper Portrait' and its technically proficient. Its just not very interesting. There's no sense of emotion or anything that draws me into the photo or the player.
So my suggestion is to get outside of the 'Girl will ball on hip' trap and start thinking creatively. Do something unique. Do something unusual, do something unexpected.
Take your lighting skills and make a more interesting photo.
