Instructor Drew Schukman, right, warns the sixth graders and their leaders of the consequences for talking after hours before sending them off to bed. David Jones, 17, of Newport Beach, Calif., reflected in mirror, is a senior and one of three squad leaders in charge of looking after the sixth graders. "I think I bothered my parents a lot. I think I had discipline problems probably," said Jonesy, as his friends refer to him. "I could ace any test your gave me, but I was a bit rebellious when it came to homework." Jones has been on first honors every marking period except one during his four years at CLMI. Most boys will attend the instutute during either middle school or high school. Others go only a single year; their parents hope the short-term experience will straighten them out enough to help them succeed in the public school system.
