Shawn Scileppi-Gonzalez, 11, of Fishkill, N.Y., gets hugs from his mothers, Carol Scileppi, left, and Maria Gonzalez, during parents' weekend, after not being able to see or talk to them for seven weeks. Scileppi and Gonzalez are public school teachers with 65 years of teaching experience between them. "When it came to public schools, they didn't provide the structure he needed. We, as educators, recognize that the public school system isn't for everyone," says Gonzalez. "Shawn went from being the kid lying about schoolwork to being an honor student. We gave him the option to relocate, but he wants to stay at Carson Long."
