The house lights go dark. "Eye of the Tiger" blares from the sound system. The crowd starts to cheer. The Concord High athletes enter the arena as one 400-watt flourescent orb illuminates the forms on the mat below. Like actors under the spotlight, the wrestlers are isolated in their competition, creating some of the most dramatic scenes in high school sports.
