Taking One for the Team

Kenny Lofton will now be photographed by Giants team photographers Martha Jane Stanton and Andy Kuno.
Now that the Kenny Lofton deal is done (Lofton was traded to the San Francisco Giants on Sunday, July 28 for two minor leaguers), I can say I played a hand in completing the deal.

Friday night I was paged to the trainers room and asked if I could photograph and transmit 18 different MRI's of Kenny's knee. The Giants would not agree to make the deal unless they were sure his knee was sound by reviewing his MRI's, and since there was only one set of MRI film available, photos would be the only way to go.

So I took out my Canon 1D and made what were apparently 18 acceptable images of these MRI's and transmitted them to someone (team doctor?) at the Giants during the game Friday night (July 26).

It's a good feeling to contribute to the club in a manner like this. Since he would have been a free agent and signed for low $, getting players in return was a BIG deal.

Sometimes there's more to the game than what's on the field and apparently, there's more to being the team photographer
