Matt Mendelsohn, long associated with USA TODAYand currently USA Weekend director of photography, recently handed in his resignation. Mendelsohn, who previously worked as a contract photographer and later a picture editor on the news desk, will concentrate on his thriving freelance business. Also at USA TODAY, Steve Mawyer has left his position as a picture editor on the sports desk and has joined America OnLine.


The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar, the "Official Seminar of Sports Shooter" recently posted its speaker list. Highlighting the Saturday speakers will be Anthony Suau. Robert Hanashiro from USA TODAY and Sports Shooter's editor/publisher will be part of the Friday workshop sessions. The Atlanta Photojournalism Seminar will be held this year Nov. 30 - Dec. 2. The Third Annual Mangin Open was held June 30, with former Golden State Warriors ball boy Steve Sanchez turning in the lowest gross score with a 77. - Apple has announced a recall of the AC adapters for G3 PowerBooks shipped between May 1998 and March 2000. Replacements are already being received by those who have requested a new power supply via Apple's website: There has been a lot of Internet rumors that Apple is also recalling the "UFO" power supplies that came with the original iBook and the G3 Firewire PowerBook (Pismo), but so far there has been no official announcement from Apple.

- Take a look at a new feature on the Orlando Sentinel's web site for a peek into what could be the future for "newspaper" photojournalism. The Sentinel's online version has added multimedia elements to the traditional slide show/picture gallery concept used by most web sites. Of particular note is the featured showcase of staff photographer George Skene's work from Cuba. Combining images, sound and text impressions from Skene, the whole presentation has an elegant feel, while not losing its journalistic feel.
