Sports Shooter News & Notes
By Robert Hanashiro

- Bob Schmidt at Hoodman reports that the company has added several new products, including the already popular Hoodcap Hood for the Nikon D1 series digital cameras. For those shooting non-D1 cameras, the new Hoodskins are available to protect that LCD screen from scratches and smudges. The Hoodskin is a clear stick-on overlay and fit a variety of products including video camera and PDAs. Got a dirty LCD screen? Hoodwipes are a non-toxic, alcohol and ammonia-free screen cleaning system. And for that photographer or businessman who has everything, the Hoodman Mobile Office is the thing for you. The HMO is a carry-on sized roller case that has a fold out desk. So when you're in the outside third photo position at Dodger Stadium getting ready to transmit that 2nd base action via Ricochet or cellphone, you can fold out your own personal desk to work on! For a look at these new products as well as the popular E2000 laptop hood and Hoodcap line of products, check out the Hoodman website at:

- Jim Gensheimer, a photojournalist on the San Jose Mercury News for the past 17 years, has accepted a one-year appointment to replace Jim McNay in the photojournalism sequence. Jim was a knight fellow at Ohio University in 1998-1999 where he received a master's degree in visual communication. Jim is widely known in the Bay Area for his expertise and numerous awards. He has been California Press Photographer of the Year and has won several national awards for his photography in Vietnam. His photos are featured in several books, including the most recent one "Pain and Grace: A Journey Through Vietnam." While at Ohio University, Jim became familiar with a number of new media technologies, including doing his Master's project on an interactive CD.

- See Jane Run is the first and only stock and assignment photography agency to focus exclusively on images of women in sports. See Jane Run licenses its powerful, rights-protected photographs online. In a fun and user-friendly setting, image buyers can quickly log-in, conduct photo searches, save images to lightboxes, download low-resolution images for comps, place images into a shopping cart, and license and download high-resolution images. Purchasing online offers clients several further benefits, according to Hillary Sloss, founder and director of See Jane Run. "One perk is safer management of photographs - valuable slides do not need to be sent by mail," she says. "Another advantage is speed. Image buyers are required to operate under quicker and quicker turn-arounds for their clients; we are accommodating by making image-buying faster." For more information, go to: or call 415.388.0830.
