We've Got Mail
Letters to Sports Shooter

By Robert Hanashiro

To the editor:

Every issue of Sports Shooter has interesting features but you guys outdid yourself last month with Mickey Pfleger's amazing diary. Mickey's riveting first-person account of his bout with a brain tumor left me speechless. As I started to read it I thought, "Oh, another story of a photographer who got hit on the sidelines."

But as the saga unfolded--that sideline hit would lead to the much graver discovery of a brain tumor-- I couldn't stop reading.

And as I finished I couldn't help but think that Mickey's tale would be something that I would be reading in Sports Illustrated or ESPN magazine. But I was reading Sports Shooter and I'm sure those guys are feeling a tad bit envious.

Great job!

Mr. Hanashiro,

I wanted to start off by congratulating you on your selection to assist the NPPA Business Practices Committee, I feel you'll be a valuable addition to this committee.

Second, I know it has been almost a month since Issue #31 was released, but I just now finally had a chance to sit down and write you this note.
I was disappointed to hear that you did not receive much support in your efforts to battle the MLB contract these past few months. There is nothing more discouraging than not receiving feedback from the group of people you are trying to help, I understand your frustration.

Personally I followed the development of the contract situation with great interest, but zero participation. Still being at the collegiate level I have yet to shoot a MLB game (my time will come). I had great interest because it affects the profession I am planning on pursuing. I hope that Sports Shooter does not become a private newsletter as I look forward to reading it each month.

I wanted to let you know that there are those of use out there who learn a lot from Sports Shooter, but feel we do not have the knowledge to actively participate at this point (myself included). Please keep up the great work, it is appreciated (even if not expressed regularly). As soon as the conversation turns to NCAA sports, you can be sure I'll let the email start flying.

Thank you,
Kevin M. Cox
