Sports Shooter News & Notes
By Robert Hanashiro

Jeff Franko, currently a picture editor on the news desk, will be leaving USA TODAY but he won't be going far. Franko has been named photography director at Gannett News Service.

Paul Morse recently resigned his staff shooting position at the Los Angeles Times to join his buddy Eric Draper in Washington DC to work for the Bush Administration. Morse had taken time off from his staff job to help Draper with the formal official portraits of the President and his family. Dean Baquet, LA Times managing editor in a New York Times story was quoted as saying: "This is a pretty ridiculous conflict of interest. This was not even debatable." After working for 4 days on a freelance basis at the White House Larry Armstrong informed Morse that he had to choose between his staff job and working for the White House. Ultimately Morse decided to join "Team Bush" and resigned his job at the LAT. Sports Shooter wishes Paul well on his new adventure "We'll miss him at the Laker games," said Robert Hanashiro.

Paul Clark and LPA Designs dropped Sports Shooter a note to announce their new PocketWizard Max Transceiver. "We wanted to let you know about a new PocketWizard product and also a software upgrade for the PocketWizard MAX that is available starting in March 2001," Clark said. The "Max" combines the functions of the original PocletWizard but adds the features like rear curtain synch, time lag management and "true trigger confirmation." The other good news is that existing PocketWizards can be upgraded at the LPA factory.
