On the Sidelines: Sports Shooter News & Notes
By Robert Hanashiro

- Bob Larson from the California Press Photographers' Association dropped a note to members of his organization on working at Candlestick Park:

The San Francisco Forty Niners will be providing a trailer or blocked off area (not yet determined) in the north end zone under the pull out stands at Candlestick Park (3-com, whatever) for the upcoming season for digital photo transmission only. There will be 5 pool phone lines, first come first serve. Or you can have your own phone line put in at your expense. Please contact Kirk Reynolds of the San Francisco Forty Niners at 408-562-4949.If you want your own line put in, I would do it ASAP. They will have tables set up with outlets and if everything goes right a TV monitor and maybe some cokes. FYI: I'm not sure if ricochet will work under those stands with all the concrete
and metal.

If you have any questions regarding this, you can call me at 925-943-8358 or e-mail me at Or call Kirk at: 408-562-4949.

- Sports Shooter contributor Ivo Gonzalez welcomed a new addition to his family with the birth of his son Felipe at 5:38am on August 8. Congratulations Ivo and Ana!

- Alison Wise Dale has landed in Colorado and recently joined the staff of the Denver Post as a picture editor. Alison previously worked at the Baltimore Sun, Gannett-Westchester, Ft. Worth Star and the Los Angeles Daily News.

- Sports Shooter has gotten several e-mails recently asking if we coined the expiation "chimping." To set the record straight, "chimping" came out of the U.S. Open Tennis Tournament a couple of years ago and to most photographers' recollection, first tumbled out of the lips of AFP shooter Tim Clary

- Golden State Warriors' team photographer Sam Forencich is pulling up stakes and heading for the Pacific Northwest. Sam is the new team shooter for the Portland Trailblazers.

- Larry Frank from LowePro wanted to clarify a comment he made in last month's Sports Shooter about the Stealth backpack. Kevin Gilbert from the White House Press Photographer's Association came up with the original concept and design of the Stealth backpack.
