"There is no better workshop to push you as a photographer to the next level," said Matt Brown, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim director of photography and the workshop's co-founder.

Brown and USA TODAY staff photographer Robert Hanashiro created the Sports Shooter Academy 9 years ago to give participants the opportunity to shoot real sports events under the guidance of handpicked faculty. Each shooting day workshop participants cover various sports events in the Los Angeles area and have their work critiqued one-on-one with SSA instructors. The top photos of the day will be recognized and awards will be give to the best images produced during the workshop. Many of the images made during past workshops have been used in national publications and have won numerous awards.

As in past workshops, Nikon Professional Services will be paying the workshop tuition for full-time college and university students accepted into SSA XI. (In other word: full-time college students accepted into SSA XI will attend TUITION-FREE!)

Nikon will also be providing loaner equipment for workshop participants to check out, including their latest professional digital cameras and lenses from ultra wide (14mm) to long telephotos (400mm and 600mm).

What they are saying about the Sports Shooter Academy:
"I just love attending Sports Shooter Academy and then coming home and wanting to re-crop EVERYTHING on my website - cringing at some of the images."
Lara Gale, Austin, Texas

"I had the time of my life last week at the Sport Shooter Academy! I am so grateful for being accepted and having the opportunity to learn from all of the talented instructors. I learned more than I could have imagined and I can't wait to put it to use in my future work."
Michael Pronzato, Ohio University

"SSA X WAS AWESOME! This Academy is definitely something I would highly recommend to anyone considering attending, and something I would love to do again!"
Rob Carmell, Yucaipa, Calif.

"The Sports Shooter Academy X was such an outstanding opportunity to learn and refine our skills. I don't think I will look through my viewfinder the same way again."
Victor Biro, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada

"It was great being around professionals that have high standards and hold me accountable. That's what this workshop was about. At first I was terrified of the critiques and getting my work torn to bits, but by the end I was craving more criticism than praise. Thank you to you all for being approachable and honest professionals."
Michael Der, Los Angeles, Calif.

"What a wonderfully informative experience! Thanks to the faculty and students for their help and hard work. It was awesome meeting everyone! I'm really eager to apply everything I learned."
Chris Palermo, Keene State College

"I learned so much and had an absolute ball.. The experience and knowledge I learned in such a small period was staggering! "With new friends I have made during the workshop, this will be ongoing support and encouragement in mastering my ability in photography."
Mel Lyons, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

"I am looking forward to making my SSA debut this year as a faculty member. I have heard so many great things over the year from both students and instructors, it will be so much fun to have the opportunity to participate, learn, be inspired, harass Rod Mar, and make new friends."
Brad Mangin, Pleasanton, Calif.
