Equipment news from Samy’s Camera
By Louis Feldman

The days surrounding Photokina, the biennial Woodstock of the photography world held in Cologne, Germany, are always an exciting time around Samy’s Camera. The rumors and anticipation of NEW GEAR is exciting and fun.

Nikon D600
One of the big announcements (and one of the worst kept camera secrets in recent memory) was Nikon’s unveiling of their first prosumer full-frame DSLR, the D600. Featuring a 24-megapixel CMOS, native ISO range of 100 – 6400, 1080 HD video capture capabilities (complete with both a headphone jack and audio meters in the viewfinder), magnesium allow body, 5.5 fps, Nikon’s state-of-the-art AF and flash systems … this camera is more PRO and sumer in my opinion. Samy’s has the D600 IN STOCK, so give us a call! DPReview has a full preview here:

Other highlights out of Photokina:
- Canon shortly after Nikon’s D600 unveiling, announced the EOS 6D, their entry into the entry-level full-frame DSLR market; also of interest to Sports Shooter members is the G15 point & shoot which features a fast 1.8-2.8 zoom
- Sony continues to impress with the announcement of their new NEX-6 mirrorless camera that looks and feels a lot like the top-of-the –line NEX-7
- For you Leica aficionados, the new “M” features a 24-megapixel full-frame CMOS and is the first of their cameras to have live view function and full HD video. Combine that with the M-class lenses … wow!
- Lighting masters out there should find the new light meters from Sekonic of interest. Sekonic’s just announced Litemaster Pro L-478DR has incorporated PocketWizard technology enabling the meter to connect with the FlexTT5 controlTL receivers and Nikon and Canon speedlights
