2012 Summer Olympics - Steve Russell
“I was at one event when a Canadian finished dead last and followed it up with our only gold of the Games.”

Jennifer Abel readies herself for her fourth dive at the London 2012 Olympic Games at the Aquatic Centre in London on August 5, 2012.
London was my third summer Games (Sydney 2000, Beijing 2008) and probably the Games I was most nervous about covering.

I was concerned leading in with transport and I was also heading in with a pair of cameras new out of the box, Canon 1DX's.

The cameras were awesome.

The rule of thumb is if transport sucks, then your Games will suck.

Thankfully transport did not suck and combined with public transit and I found that I could make it to two or three events a day quite easily. A couple times I managed four. In fact, public transit saved me one day.

The other adjustment I had to make is that I was a lone wolf for my paper for the first time, deciding what to do each day and how to squeeze in that extra event was also a challenge.

As a Canadian, my job was to follow the Canadians, I was at one event when a Canadian finished dead last and followed it up with our only gold of the Games.

And just when you think the Games are over the last track event produced some drama for us when our 4x100 relay team won bronze, for about two minutes, they were disqualified. Jubo and dejection and a night I thought I was going to go out early and have a pint was shattered!

In between I managed to pump out 14 blog posts, here is the 4x100: http://bit.ly/SRoly13 .
