THE coolest sports photography event of the year returns to Southern California next spring.

Sports Shooter Academy IX, a hands-on, shooting workshop, will be held April 26-29, 2012. This is a slight change in our usual schedule, but we thought it worth it because it will give participants another full day of great sports photography to learn and become inspired through.

Sports we are planning on having on the schedule include: baseball, track & field, horse racing, boxing, lacrosse, beach volleyball, surfing and swimming & diving.

The lineup of instructors for this workshop, lead by SSA co-founder Matt Brown include: -Dave Black (Colorado-based freelance photographer) -Rod Mar (Seattle Seahawks & Sounders team photographer) -Wally Skalij (Los Angeles Times) -John McDonough (Sports Illustrated) -Shawn Cullen (Sports Illustrated) -Myung J. Chun (Los Angeles Times) -Robert Hanashiro (USA TODAY)

Each day workshop participants will cover various sports events under the guidance of the SSA faculty. Instructors will help participants with ideas for covering events, shooting positions, helping with remote cameras, lens selection and other insightful tips. Each evening the faculty will help participants edit their work through one-on-one critiques. These editing and critique sessions are often the highlight of the workshop for participants.

Nikon is the primary sponsor of Sports Shooter Academy IX.

Samy’s Camera is also providing funding and support of the workshop.

Other companies supporting SSA IX include: -Think Tank Photo -liveBooks -LPA Designs (maker of Pocket Wizard products) -HonlPhoto

To attend Sports Shooter Academy IX, complete and submit the on-line application form: http://www.rsvpbook.com/event.php?471505

The application includes a short essay, please use this space to tell the workshop faculty and administrators your photography background, what you hope to get out of attending The Academy and your goals in photography.

A portfolio is also required to apply. Sports Shooter members can simply create a “Hidden Gallery”. Non-members should include a link to a gallery of their work. These galleries do not have to be exclusively sports photographs and should display your talent and experience level. You should have a minimum of 12 images in your gallery submission.
