Rafael Delgado's Favorite Image of 2010
“To have worked the series was nothing short of a dream.”

By RAFAEL DELGADO. Orange Coast College

Editor's Note: For this issue of the Sports Shooter Newsletter I asked students that are members of ss.com or had attended one of the Academy workshops to submit their favorite photo of 2010 and write a short piece about it. This image could be from a favorite assignment, show something they had learned or is something of a personal nature. The one requirement was, the image had to have special significance to them.

The year was quite memorable for many reasons. Not too many bylines but still a great year. It kicked off with the Rose Bowl Game in my beloved hometown of Pasadena. The BCS Championship came shortly afterward. This past summer brought another NBA Finals to Staples Center. Coming from a day rate perspective, thank goodness that series went 7 games.

Later in the year assisting at a Chargers game broke my NFL void. This year also included many enjoyable assisting assignments, each with their unique experiences. Movie junkets with giant entourages are now a normal sight for me. However no assignment this past year beats the fall classic.

The World Series at San Francisco will forever be my greatest assignment to date. To have worked the series was nothing short of a dream. A modified childhood dream of course, but still a bucket list crossed off. There was no contract authored by Scott Boras for me. Nonetheless the World Series was the best assignment of the year.

It did not come with a single byline, but that does not matter one bit. I know my role and I enjoy each assignment. Technology one day will replace my current role. Until that day comes, I am simply living the dream. It is hard to beat working in a community I adore and cherish.

As for 2011 who knows what will come. 365 days always seems like a lot of time. It always goes by way too fast. I may even shave the beard off again. I really have no clue where I may be this time next year. I am just waiting for a steady blow of wind, and I will trim the sails according. Whatever course it leads will come with one definite. My sandal series will continue where I may be.

Special thanks to Thomson Reuters for having me on scene all year long.
