Leading Off: Dear Santa, From Emma Hanashiro
By Robert Hanashiro

While trying to come up with a column for our Holiday issue, I came across my daughter Emma's letter to Santa. So rather than write an entire mushy column on the "Season of Giving" I thought I'd print the words of a 6-year-old, which I found heart-felt and interesting.

Dear Santa,

I know this is kinda late, but my dad keeps using the computer at all hours of the night. I know my friend Nancy said the Cheerleader Barbie is what I should ask for, but I know my mom will get that for me anyway.

So I just want to give you a short list of the things I'd like to see before the next millennium (isn't that REALLY suppose to start in 2001???).

6) I'd like to see Michael Jordan come out of retirement and play in the NBA. It doesn't have to be with da' Bulls (they'd still be awful). Maybe with someone like the Kings or the Spurs. The NBA is sooooooo boring now.

5) A new digital camera from Canon. My mommy says that dad would be so much happier if he had something to yell back at all his friends using Uncle Ronnie's new D1.

4) An NFL Team in Los Angeles so daddy doesn't have to fly up to San Francisco every weekend to cover the crummy Raiders and 49ers.

3) The Giants in the World Series (I think this is something dad and grandpa really want).

2) World peace so dad doesn't have to go to scary places like Kosovo again.

1) A Pokedex.

I hope everything is okay at the North Pole and the elves aren't threatening a work stoppage like pro athletes and umpires.

BTW: if you can get any of the above, I'll leave you some bagels and light cream cheese with salmon by the fire place (mom said you looked a little too chubby at the mall the other day).

Thank you.

Love, Emma.

The last issue of Sports Shooter for 1999 features installments of regular features from Tim Clayton on Sydney, "The Count" on cigars and Sam Mircovich on the healthy shooter. San Jose Sharks photographer Don Smith and SI's John Iacono have also contributed interesting pieces for our readers.

A review of new products from VersaFlex, Kinesis and Lightware should also be of interest to many of you and of course, we have much, much more.

So sit back, turn down that "Christmas Story" video, adjust the contrast on your monitor and enjoy Sports Shooter v.15.

And Ho, Ho, Ho .... Merry Christmas to all!

Robert Hanashiro, Sports Shooter.
