Decade Collection: Bob Deutsch
"… (I hope) it represents the future, a different decade, a better ten years than the last."

President-elect Barack Obama on his way to being sworn in as the 44th president of the United States on Jan. 20, 2009.
The Kahuna asked a few of us to pick our favorite photo from the last decade, and for me that's an impossible task. But at least now, today, the one that I picked is the moment Obama walked out for his inauguration. Not because it’s a great photo, or anything special I did (access, after all, is the only trick here), but because (I hope) it represents the future, a different decade, a better ten years than the last.

I’m really not that much of an optimist, and I know that the reality of politics, economics, and man’s nature make it unlikely that things will be much different, but that day I sure thought that there was a chance that we might start new. And I’ll bet that more than a few in the crowd, both Congress, the VIPs in front, and the crowds on the mall, thought the same.
