The Twins team exploded onto the field after Alexi Cassilla his a single to send home Carlos Gomez (top right) for the winning run in the one game tie breaker against the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday night at the Metrodome.
If you've ever shot at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, you know what a beautiful facility it is. Some would say state-of-the-art (Maybe for 1959?) We will all mourn it's passing (At least for baseball!) as the new Target Field will be host to the Twins in 2010. I've always said that the Metrodome was the best thing to ever happen to Minnesota weather because every time I go inside the protection of it's teflon roof, it's gorgeous outside. And who could forget the stench of rotting chew, our friends the field mice or the 60 mph wind that would blow you out the stadium doors when you left the game.

The past weekend was nutty! I spent Sunday night in the Metrodome trying to help the Twins celebrate their last game at the dome. Unfortunately they won the game and forced a one game tiebreaker with Detroit on Tuesday night. But first the Vikings, who are also pushing the taxpayers to pony up for a new playground. The purple had a game to play. Not just any game. This was Favre -vs- the Packers, they claim it was the most watched regular season game in history. Did you know Favre wears Wranglers?

Long story short. On Tuesday night I spent what I thought would be my final Twins game in the Metrodome. Crammed into one of the vent holes that keep the roof inflated. It's the only place in the dome that you can escape getting advertising in your pictures. I took a gamble, It's a nice clean shot to home plate except for one thing, the umps double padded backside. I was literally blocked on four out of five plays at the plate. And if you watched the game, any one could have been the game winner. But I held my ground, despite the 25 mile-per-hour winds blowing through my little port hole, I waited. Almost five hours later and into the bottom of the 12th inning, tied at 5, Alexi Cassilla hit a single into right field and Carlos Gomez came flying home for the game winning run. I hit the drive and prayed to the focus gods. They answered my prayers. The Twins won the division after an amazing 17-4 winning streak to end the season. I will be back in my vent hole Sunday night.

Long live the Metrodome.
