Hubbard and Black Headline Brooks Speakers Program for March & April 2009

This is the schedule for Brooks Institute’s School of Visual Journalism Guest Speaker Series for March/ April 2009. This series is an exciting line up including a variety of career paths. And we are extremely excited to host Dave Black for a Nikon Sponsored Event.

The Passion and Purpose of Storytelling
Garrett Hubbard, Brooks Institute Visual Journalism Alumnus, is a staff Video Journalist at USA TODAY and he is pretty sure he has the best job in the world. Most of his stories have a video and still photographic component for both the print and online edition of the paper. Prior to joining the USA TODAY staff, Hubbard told photo and documentary video stories for USA TODAY, The Washington Post and The New York Times. Before moving to Washington D.C. in 2007, he worked as a staff video journalist and photojournalist at the Naples (Fla.) Daily News.

Tim Hauf

Tim Hauf is a nature/travel photographer who has traveled to many remote corners of the planet with a desire to create a better understanding and appreciation of the world around us through photography. His list of published books include unique destinations such as the Himalaya of Nepal; South America’s remote Patagonia region at the southern tip of the continent; the rugged wilderness of northern Manitoba, Canada; and South Africa’s remarkable World Heritage Sites. His photographs have appeared in numerous publications throughout the world, including Islands, Sunset, Asia Pacific Travel, Explore, Terre Sauvage, South Africa Times, and others. Tim’s most recent book Channel Islands National Park and National Marine Sanctuary is his second on the Channel Islands.


All events are free, open to the community, and held at Brooks Institute’s Ventura Campus 5301 N. Ventura Ave.

Take highway 101 to Ventura, then highway 33 toward Ojai. Take the Canada Larga exit off highway 33. Turn left at the bottom of the offramp, then left at the second stop sign. Brooks Ventura campus is the large complex off to the right.
