There is still space available for Sports Shooter Academy VI, which will be held April 8-12, 2009 in Southern California.

"Words fail me about how incredibly awesome the Sports Shooter Academy is!" said SportsShooter.com member Jenna Tower from Berkeley, CA, "I have been to two and I have learned more in those few days with the faculty than I really did in the months of photography school. The workshop encourages you to be your most creative and to think outside of the box that photographers have a tendency to get stuck in."

Through a sponsorship arrangement with Nikon, USA, full-time college and university students can attend the workshop tuition-free. This is a potential savings of $550.

The Sports Shooter Academy is a 5-day, hands-on shooting workshop that features a wide variety of NCAA Division I sports events, including: Track & field, baseball, volleyball, tennis, water polo and softball. Additional sports on the workshop schedule include boxing, beach volleyball, lacrosse and horse racing.

Classroom topics tentatively on the SSA VI schedule include portraits and location lighting; getting the most out of your speedlites; professionalism, business practices and ethics; digital workflow; and using remote cameras.

Participants in the Sports Shooter Academy will have three full days of shooting events throughout Southern California. Faculty members will be present at all events, offering their insights, shooting tips and any other help participants need while covering these sports.

Each evening SSA participants will review their work one-on-one with the faculty who will help them edit and select photos that will be shown in the daily slideshow. The best photo of the day will be recognized and awards will be given out at a Sunday brunch (included in the registration fee) for the best single photograph and the best body of work made during SSA VI.

"The faculty is always high energy, motivating, inspiring, approachable, knowledgeable and successful working pros, said SportsShooter.com member and student Octavian Cantilli who attend SSA V and the recent Sports Shooter Academy Boot Camp '08.

Sports Shooter Academy VI is sponsored by Nikon which will have technical reps at the workshop and as well as a wide variety of equipment for participants to check out and use at the various events. DSLR bodies D3, D300 and D700 , lenses from wide angle to 600mm and speedlites will all be available for participants to check out and shoot with during the workshop.

Think Tank Photo and Samy's Camera will also be supporting Sports Shooter Academy VI.

"Without the help and generosity of Nikon, Think Tank Photo and Samy's Camera, I could not hold this workshop tuition-free for students and at reasonable fee for working professionals," said Sports Shooter founder Robert Hanashiro, the workshop's director.

Tuition for non-students is $550 for SportsShooter.com members and $600 for non-members.

The goal of the Sports Shooter Academy is to give students and working photographers an opportunity to shoot real sports events under the guidance of a faculty of award-winning photographers, to learn new techniques, look at sports photography in a different way, to grow professionally and network with fellow photographers from throughout the country. With the cooperation of the NCAA Division I Big West Conference, participants will have the opportunity to shoot events at Cal State Fullerton, U.C. Irvine and Cal State Long Beach.
