Darrell Miho has organized a foundation in honor of his brother Garrett who passed away last May. The Miho Foundation is just getting off the ground, but will be holding it's first fund raiser, a bowling fund raiser on Sunday October 10th from 12-6pm. The Foundation will benefit children and teens being raised by single parents. It will help single parents with the cost of raising children and work to provide mentors and scholarships for them. The fundraiser will be held at The Beverly Bowl located at 1201 West Beverly Boulevard, Montebello, CA 90640, phone 323-728-9161. If you are unable to attend and would still like to help out please contact Darrell at dmiho@earthlink.net.

Several Chicago Tribune photographers and editors were rather concerned last Monday. It turned out that someone stole a radio from the office issued to imaging department manager Don Bierman and spent the day calling Tribune staff photographers and editors. When he called staff photographer Nuccio DiNuzzo he claimed that he had kidnapped Bierman and was holding him at the Sears Tower for three million dollars ransom. Nuccio called that office and found that he had also called photo editor Chris Wilkins asking for $30,000 ransom for a $99 radio. Those were only two of many calls that day. Luckily Don Bierman was not with his radio and was just fine.

On the move...Vincent LaForet, formerly of Allsport, has accepted a job at the New York Times in the electronic division. He will be working on assigning, shooting and editing special projects for the NY Times on the Web. Vince is also looking forward to being closer to his family and living in the city where he grew up. Jody Steck has also moved to New York and returned to the Associated Press. She formerly worked for the AP in Los Angeles and San Francisco and also headed up the photo departments at the Orange County Register and the Santa Rosa Press-Democrat.

AP/Washington photo editor Jeff Franko has taken a job as a photo editor at USA TODAY. Jeff will be working in on the news desk. Dallas Allsport staffer Steve Dunn has moved back to Los Angeles and will work in the office overseeing all editing. Allsport staffer Elsa Hasch has moved from Los Angeles to St. Louis.

John Grieshop married Ellen Mason on August 21st. Among those in attendance were Brad Smith, Bruce Schwartzmann, Manny Millan and Darrell Miho. Los Angeles Dodgers team photographer John Soohoo is expecting his third son due September 27th (John and I will have to form a "photographers with three sons" club or something like that.)

(Anne Ryan is USA TODAY's Chicago-based staff photographer and resident gourmet cook.)
