Barenaked Brandi
By Robert Hanashiro

It has been called THE defining moment in women's sports history. It's also been called the most calculated striptease in sports marketing history.

When Brandi Chastain pulled off her jersey after hitting a penalty kick in the USA's win over China in the Women's World Cup, millions watched in amusement and shock and the debate was on: do we or don't we run this photo?

While most of the publications contacted by Sports Shooter tell us that there was some debate on the propriety of runningan image of a women in her underwear, all ran it because of the sheer elation and emotion that the moment captured.

However, some editors and photographer expressed some personal reservations about running the photographs.

Sports Illustrated's Robert Beck made THE definitive frame of Chastain as she sank to her knees after stripped off her jersey. It is the only head-on angle I have seen.

Following Robert's take on the end of the WWC Final, are short comments by various picture editors and photographers on the Chastain moment.
