Luau Becomes A Shindig
By Robert Hanashiro, Sports Shooter

Trade in those Hawaiian shirts and Muu Muu dresses for tie-dye t-shirts and Nauru jackets … the Luau has been REBORN and will be back this Fall as the Sports Shooter Shindig.
The name may have changed a bit, but the attitude, fun, inspiration and education are all still there.

Mark the weekend of September 22 - 23, 2006 in your calendar for the next COOLEST photography event of the year.

Held in Southern California, the Shindig will feature:
• Staff of the New Orleans Times-Picayune (Alex Brandon, Ted Jackson, David Grunfeld and Brett Duke) making a presentation on covering Hurricane Katrina and the aftermath, both photographically and personally.

• Staff of the Los Angeles Times led by picture editor Gail Fisher will discuss documentary photography projects and show a selection of work.

• Pete Souza of the Chicago Tribune will talk about covering politics and his years as presidential photographer for Ronald Reagan.

Breakout class topics will include:
• "The ABCs (and DEFGs) of Sports Photography"
• "Gonzo Portrait Lighting"
• "Put The MULTI in Your Media"
• "There's No Business Like Show Business"
• "Da Biz Side of Photography"
• "Finding a job … Keeping Your Job"
• "Here Comes The Bride: Docu-Wedding Photography"
AND … much, much more!

The Sports Shooter Shindig will also feature evening portfolio review sessions and a full trade show with some of the top photographic companies including (at this writing), Nikon, Samy's Camera, Think Tank Photo, Penn Camera, Hoodman and many more.

If you've attend one of the previous Sports Shooter Luaus, you know how interesting, informative, educational, entertaining and just plain fun they are. Just think "60's" instead of "Hawaii". (All right, all right … yes, they did wear Hawaiian print shirts in the 60s!)

Full programming details and registration information will be made available soon. Keep your eyes on the SportsShooter.com website and this newsletter.

The Sports Shooter Shindig is sponsored by Nikon and would not be possible without their generous support.

Cool!
