Commuter Short Course Breakout Faculty Announced
By Sports Shooter Staff

Chip Litherland, Rod Mar, Donald Miralle, Wally Skalij, Rick Rickman and the staff of the Ventura Star will be leading breakout classes at the Sports Shooter Commuter Short Course Nov. 4 - 5, 2005.

They join previously announced featured speakers Deanne Fitzmaurice and Kathleen Hennessy of the San Francisco Chronicle and Jack Gruber of USA TODAY. The event is being held at the Ventura campus of Brooks Institute of Photography.

"The organizers at Sports Shooter have brought together our photography community in ways that we could not have imagined just a few years ago," said Fitzmaurice, "They do it for all the right reasons: For the love of photography and to advance our craft."

Litherland, of the Sarasota Herald-Tribune, will be leading a breakout class on "Photoshop For Photojournalists".

Mar, staff photographer at the Seattle Times, leads a session titled "Sports Beyond The Action".

Miralle, of Getty Images, and Skalij, a staffer at the Los Angeles Times, will show their award-winning work and discuss "Using Light, Creative "Seeing": Getting The Most Out Of An Assignment".

Rickman moderates a panel discussing the topic "Get A Job!"

The staff of the Ventura Star will discuss their award-winning coverage of their community.

Canon and Nikon will participate in a trade show at the Commuter Short Course and will be providing services on site including showing off their latest equipment and offering educational classes on their products.

Registration for the Sports Shooter Commuter Short Course will begin shortly. This event will be FREE.

"Having the workshop at Brooks campus in beautiful Ventura is an added bonus," said Fitzmaurice. "Jim McNay (of Brooks) has put together an innovative educational photography program that will be great to be affiliated with at the Commuter Short Course."
