New Products at Samy's Camera
By Louis Feldman

What a difference a year makes. This year Laker fans (of which I count myself) were watching the team steamroll into the NBA Playoffs ... this year? We're watching the "Kobe's Team" self-destruct as he Miami Heat steam roll into the post-season...

The Nikon D2x continues to be a hot-seller and if you want to see how it performs under fire, check out the Academy Awards official website for photos by Long Photography at oscar.com. Also WireImage received a number of D2x bodies just before Oscar Night and you can look over their photos at wireimage.com. The new Nikon D2Hs is starting to ship this week, so give Samy's Camera a call to check our prices for Sports Shooter members. I always get calls from photographers looking for recommendations for a great back up or complimentary camera body for the D2-series camera ... and what I think is a great camera on its own is the D70. At sub $1,000 (body only) this camera pack a lot into a small and light package: 6 mega-pixel, incredibly speedy buffer, built-in speedlite, high capacity battery are just the highlights.

Canon's 1D Mark II is readily available, so contact us for the most up-to-date pricing for Sports Shooter members! The 1D "big brother" --- the 1Ds Mark II have been trickling in and we sell them very quickly, so call to check current availability and price. For those Canon shooters looking for a smaller - lighter body, the D20 and the new Rebel XT continue to be extremely popular ... and we have the XT in black! A perfect gift for that significant other is Canon's new Powershot SD500. An incredibly tiny point & shoot at ... get this ... 7.1 megapixels! The SD500 features a USB 2.0 connection for faster downloads and a 60 fps movie mode (320 x 240)!

Another great new product just came through the door this week ... the MicroSynch Digital transmitter and receiver. This new triggering system is THE TINIEST remote triggering system out there. It will fire both strobes and camera remotely with a range of about 100 feet. For more information about this new product, check out MicroSynch's web site at: http://www.microsyncdigital.com/index.cfm

A new product from a favorite of Sports Shooter readers is the Lensbaby 2.0. As the name says, this new version of the popular Lensbaby has a maximum aperture of f/2!

Big news at Samy's is the opening of our relocated store in Santa Barbara. This new location is huge compared to the old store, with lots more room for all of the gear and toys that photographers need and want to check out. We are conveniently located (especially for you "Brookies") in Santa Barbara at: 614 Chapala St. Santa Barbara. Drop by when you're in the area ...

I'd like to thank all of you Sports Shooter readers for your calls and support. With the new Student Portfolio Contest and all of the other great features at sportsshooter.com, we are proud to be a part of this wonderful community here at Sports Shooter!
