• Jordin Thomas Althaus of San Francisco State University was the winner of the Nikon Shoot Out held at the recent Sports Shooter Workshop & Luau. Althaus, competing against 19 other college and university students won a Nikon D70 digital camera kit for his school. Althaus' winning photograph was selected during an open judging session at the Workshop & Luau.

• Canon Professional Services will host a luncheon for Super Bowl accredited still photographers from 11:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M., Saturday February 5, at Clark's Fish Camp, 12903 Hoodlanding Road Mandarin, FL (904) 268-3474. Photographers may register and pick up an invitation at the Canon Trailer, located in the photo media trailer compound located outside Alltel Stadium, beginning Wednesday, February 2 through Friday, February 4. An invitation is required for the luncheon. Maps will be available. Canon will have service technicians and equipment support available during Super Bowl week beginning Thursday, February 2 through game day at Alltel Stadium. • All 25 slots in the Sports Shooter Academy have been filled. This is the first-ever hands-on workshop from Sports Shooter and is being sponsored principally by Nikon. The Sports Shooter Academy is being held in cooperation with the Big West Conference and is believed to be the first shooting, hands-on sports photography workshop held with an NCAA Division 1 league. The 25 participants will be covering events at CSU, Long Beach, U.C. Irvine and CSU, Fullerton. The workshop faculty includes: Southern California freelance sports photographer Matt Brown, Wally Skalij of the Los Angeles Times, Don Miralle of Getty Images and Robert Hanashiro of USA TODAY. The event is being organized by Hanashiro and Nikon's Ronal Taniwaki.
