Samy's September Specials
By Louis Feldman

Gymnastics, swimming track & field were all over NBC but some of the sports I really wanted to see got so little airtime I was very disappointed! The USA women's softball team and the men's freestyle wrestling deserved more prime-time coverage ... but at least Lisa Fernandez and Co. brought home the gold as well as Cael Sanderson. Sanderson was undefeated at Iowa State ... an amazing 158-0 and kept that record going during the Olympic competition. It would be nice to see more of athletes like Cael and Lisa instead of the "glamor" events like the "Dream (or was it Nightmare) Team?

On to Samy's September Specials ...
Canon announced another camera right on the heels of the successful Mark II. The new 20D I think will be very popular, something photographers will want when a lighter, quieter and yes, less expensive body is what they are looking for. At 8.2 million pixels, faster auto-focus, 5-fps and a 23-frame buffer ... what's not to love? Please give a Samy's sales person a call to check on availability and current pricing.

Canon XL2 digital video camera
Another hot Canon product has started trickling in, the XL2 digital video camera. This new camera replaces Canon's flagship the XL1s and features a 3CCD progressive scan system and provides 16:9 (962 x 480 pixels) and 4:3 (720 x 480 pixels) recording. The camcorder's third generation signal processing LSI (large scale integrated circuit) improves Signal/Noise ratio to realize higher resolution than XL1s camcorder. If you want the best, this is it.

With the start of football season, maybe it's time to look at a new monopod and Samy's is the place. Whether it's the tried and true Bogen or the Gitzo carbon-fiber model, we have them all in stock and ready for you to pick up ... or give us a call so we can ship it to you before this weekend's big games.

Also check our web site for the cool bags, cases and wet weather protection gear from Kata. If you're looking for the ultimate in protection in addition to something that just look darn COOL, Kata is it!
We keep hearing and reading rumors of a new professional digital camera body from our friends at Nikon. The tech specs being talked about are very promising, let's hope that we get an official announcement sometime this fall.

Lexar compact flash card prices keep dropping it seems almost by the minute. With the need for faster, larger capacity storage, don't whimp out when making your purchases ... give a Samy's sales rep a call for the latest (and lowest) pricing on all of our Lexar products from their new 80x compact flash cards to the tiny, cool firewire reader.

And lastly, remember that Samy's is a fully authorized Apple reseller. So if your needs also include computer gear ... like a new G5 desktop or a new 15 or 12-inch aluminum PowerBook or an iPod ... we have it all in stock and ready for delivery.

Samy's is a proud sponsor and participant in THE coolest photography event of the year, the annual Sports Shooter Workshop & Luau. We will have an extensive display at the Redondo Beach Crowne Plaza, loaded with all the latest and greatest gear to check out and purchase. We hope to see all of you there!
