Beck: Are you ready for some football?
By Robert Beck, Sports Illustrated

"Before I try to fix any gear or make sure it is working, I try to find it.

Then I try to track down an assistant (sometimes a small one) to help me at a game as I carry four or five bodies and a 600, 400, 80-200, a grab body and some wide lenses for the post game scrum at the middle of the field.

Frequently I'm doing a college game on Saturday and a pro game (I know, many of us don't consider the Chargers a pro team) on Sunday so I double check game times and, if needed, driving directions. Where's Laramie? Then I get online and check the weather. I need to know if I need rain gear or not. In the meantime I'm chargin' the heck out of all them batteries!

If I'm going on the high road, I charge my iPod and palm dvd player. I pick out a good movie, kiss the kids goodbye and hit the road ยท always wondering what I forgot at home this time. Study game film? Yeah. I watch MNF."
