->> Jeff is IRL taking over from CART in North American as leader in open wheel racing?
I am a closet racing car fan, although I don't watch much of it anymore. |

->> Robert for now CART will still be in business. A new gruop has bought the series and will try to save it. Is the IRL the leader in open wheel? Good question and it depends on who you ask. IRL fans would say yes, CART fans would probably say no.
If you haven't watched any of the IRL races, especially Kentucky, Chicago and Texas, you are in for a treat. AT Texas in Oct there were 5 guys with a shot at the series title. A few of my NASCAR friends became IRL fans after watching the close racing they have.
Oh and Robert, get your earplugs and come out of that closet LOL. |

| ->> CART is dead. It disolved into what's now known as the Champ car series owned by OWRS. IRL attempted to buy CART's assetts but the bankruptcy judge would not allow it. Now the IRL will get them for free when OWRS folds later this year or next. Unification is badly needed in open wheel racing as the two series fades into the shadow of NASCAR. |

->> Michael -
You're selling CART a bit short. OWRS is owned/funded by a couple of billioniares (and the owners of at least 4 Champcar teams and the TransAm race series) who are willing to spend money. Your take on the bankruptcy auction's outcome does not tell the whole story.
Is unification needed ? Yes. Will an all oval series work. Not likely. Those of us involved in the open wheel world know that it is a huge hot button for a lot of people and trying to tell the whole story in one post doesn't do anyone any good.
As for getting a hardcard for either series, you need to have your request come from a valid organization and plan on being at the majority of events during the year. It helps if you attended a number of events last year and your images ran. Ron McQueeny is the IRL photo boss and Eric Mauk is CART’s guy. Either of them can tell you the exact requirements for a hardcard.
BTW - I shoot both. |
