Epson Driver Problems with 10.3?
Chris Nowling, Photographer

->> I just updated to Panther and for the first time tonight I tried to print to a 2200. I don't have Image Print so I am stuck with the Epson driver. Anyway, when I printed an image it appeared that no black ink was being layed down and the colors were way off. All of my profiles were set correctly (source space - ARGB 98, print space - paper profile) and color adjustments were turned off. I did it a couple times and got the same horrible result. When I printed in OS 9, everything worked fine.

Is this a known issue with 10.3? Could it also be the 10.3.2 update I just installed? I have never printed out of OS X so I have nothing to compare my results to.

thanks.

->> Once I upgraded Panther on my computer I had problems printing to my Epson, and after checking the Epson site there were no new drivers for 10.3, so I called their customer support # (found on the site) and was given instructions on how to delete and reinstall the printer without new drivers, now it prints without a problem

The printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 960

->> OK - initially had a problem with the driver myself. Just updated to 10.3.3 - it wasn't a problem with color though - my printer was not responding at all - so I'm not sure if it's related to your problem. Here is the solution I used - it MAY help...

I deleted the Epson 2200 from my printer List
The of course the app said that the 2200 drivers were not installed - so I switched from USB to EPSON USB and re-selected the printer.

Now it all works fine. Hope this helps - and works for you...

The printer prints color just fine - printed out a color picture just to make sure. v

->> Vince-

that is exactly what my issue was and how it was fixed, thought that even though it wasnt a color issue, it could be what is effecting Chris

->> Vince,

did you mean to type 10.3.2 instead of 10.3.3?

->> I upgraded to 10.3.2 yesterday as well....and made about 6 prints on my 2200 with ImagePrint...no problem.

I did have to reinstall the "dongle" when I went from Jaguar to Panther...but this most recent upgrade "seemed" to work fine. I ran my normal slate of apps... PhotoShop... Entourage...ImagePrint... PhotoMechanicPRO... iTunes...everything "seems" to be working on my setup.

Vincent has a lot more experience on ImagePrint than I do....but mine works....which would lead me to believe there is a conflict with something else on Vincent's that is interrupting his ImagePrint. I think if there were a direct incompatibility with 10.2.3 and ImagePrint...then mine would not work as well...

Just FYI...I print via USB not Firewire...I have not used the Epson driver since I bought ImagePrint...my "day to day" text printing in done on a older HP 935...and that is working fine too.

I have not found any problems within the recent upgrade.

My 2 cents

->> Mike was right -

Here is the solution should you have any problems:

When you installed Panther the upgrades reset some Unix files. To get themback where you need them you need to run a script located in the ImagePrint folder call ETC Edit Script. Launch it and then type in you system password, if you don't have a system password include one blank space. After the script exits you need to reboot and all should be well.

->> With ImagePrint - it is essential to your mental health to buy the support package. It is $150.00 for ninety days and is email only. Program is amazing - but a pain to work with at times. Vincent, call me and I'll tell you the workaround I received from ColorByte support. It is a powerful program - well worth money - but is a bit daunting at times.

->> Follow-up - I spoke with the President of ColorByte - there are known problems/issues with Panther, the G5 and ImagePrint. They have a solution - contact tech support. It is pretty correct the problem.
