->> I'm working on a football story for a German newspaper and I wonder what happend to Lyle Alzado. I know he died 1992 but I thought he was introduced to the Hall of Fame and Bill Mack made a sculpture for it. But on the Hall of Fame webside I can't find neither one. If anybody knows the reason why - please help!
Sorry for this off topic post but I know there are many experts around here so I thought I might ask...
Thanks,
Matthias |

| ->> Matthias, Lyle Alzado has not been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame..That's the reason there's no biographical information on him. I think the Bill Mack sculpture was done as a special tribute to the memory of Alzado. |

Lyle Alzado, who gained a reputation as one of football's most
aggressive, violent performers, was buried yesterday after a small,
quiet and private graveside service.
About 50 people, including Los Angeles Raiders owner and president
Al Davis, attended the service at a cemetery on a hillside above the
Willamette River. Alzado's wife, Kathy, led the procession of mourners
to the gravesite.
Alzado, a two-time All-Pro defensive end who blamed prolonged use of
steroids for his terminal brain cancer, died Thursday morning at his
home in Lake Oswego, not far from where he was buried. He was 43.
==========
BRAWLER FROM BROOKLYN
At this point we may never get all the stories straightened
out, partly because some of the wildest ones were true. Alzado's tales
of brawling and knife fighting when he was growing up on Brooklyn read
like a cheap paperback.
As his first wife, Sharon, once said, "At first I didn't
believe Lyle's stories. I'd see a scar and I'd say, `What's that's
from?' He'd say it was from a stabbing and I wouldn't believe it."
But how much more far-fetched is that than the idea that the
former Golden Gloves boxer from Brooklyn would end up playing football
at little Yankton College in Yankton, S.D. Or that he would not only
make the NFL, but play 14 years, including at least two comebacks from
the absolute end of his career? |
