->> Wow, I thought Editor and Publisher had Newsweek listed as in a partnership with The Washington Post.

Does "partnership" now mean "owned by, yet working under a different name?"

The New York Times Co. owns part of the Boston Red Sox.
Viacom owns Blockbuster.
And for one of the largest media companies in the world ... News Corp (aka Rupert Murdoch):
- Los Angeles Dodgers
-New York Rangers & New York Knicks (20% - Through partnership with Cablevision)
- Los Angeles Kings (NHL, 40% option)
- Los Angeles Lakers (NBA, 9.8% option)

Just a few facts ...

->> Steven,

Newsweek is owned by the Washington Post Co., which is greater than it's namesake the Washington Post Newspaper. The Washington Post Co. also owns Kaplan (the test preparation thing), a number of radio and television stations, as well as a regional cable company. It used to share ownership of the Internation Herald-Tribune with the New York Times, until some time last year when the Times made a power play, and took over the IHT completely.

I can't remember everything it owns...but it does run Newsweek and The Washington Post as entirely separate entities. (At least that was how it was before I left...) In "partnership", I think they mean, "we share the same owner, and will do what we can to share and play nice with each other..."

But, it's interesting to note that at large media events such as the Republican National Convention and the Olympics, The Washington Post maintained its own press area that was completely separate from Newsweek.

This could have all changed by now, but I sortof doubt it.
