Soccer goal remote? Don't kill the grass

->> So I went to set up a remote camera behind the goal at our MLS stadium. It was a rare day game- usually soccer in Houston is at night due to the heat. I was told by the grounds crew that my remote was not allowed because the floor plate would kill the grass with the sun out. The team photographer convinced him to leave his remote alone because it was on a 3 legged Manfrotto mini-tripod- which is not a grass killer like a regular floor plate. |

->> As a photographer it sucks but as a former lawn owner I understand what they are saying and doing. Putting that 12x12, probably black floor plate on the grass for 4 hours or so during the heat of the day will seriously damage any grass under it. That mini tripod does not cover the grass if it set up correctly. The legs should be pushed down into the soil below the grass. As a side note, years ago the NY Yankees stopped allowing up to put a monopod on the grass during batting practice because they could damage the grass, later it turned into just stay off the grass period. |

->> Yup, that's true. It cooks the grass and it chokes on it's own oxygen. |
